Hi All:

I just bought a new MAT and was considering upgrading some of the washing machines. I was thinking about getting rid of 4 of my VERY old speed queen top-loaders machines and replacing them with two Giant Wascomat 55lb machines. The reason I would like to go with the Giants is because during busy times people are actually waiting to use the existing giant machines. I have also done the math and it cost me more to run the top loaders than what I am currently charging for them.

My questions to the experts is:

What brand should I consider? IF you prefer one brand over another, please tell me the pros and cons.

Thanks all!

First thing I would do is raise the price of the toploaders.
Then sounds like you do need some big washers, so replacing 4 tops with 2 "Giants" sounds like a step in the right direction

What do you have now? There is a strong argument for sticking with the brand you currently use. No need to learn to repair two makes, no need to stock lots of parts, etc.

wascomat machines are excellent new even better you do not have worry about servicing for 3 years warranty. less power and water but if you do not have a good dealer go with who you feel will be there to service you in the future we just got 2 w630 they work excellent customers love them.

If customers are waiting for the larger machines, then you have the wrong equipment mix. So you do need some larger machines.

I recently finished a 10 year retrofit of the entire store. I, too, started with the wrong mix, so the retrofit allowed me to adjust the mix to the current flow of customers. I went up at least one size (sometimes 2 !!!) across the board, thereby increasing my washing capacity by 40%. Larger machines means larger price per machine.

Have you concidered removing the 4 SQ tops and replacing them with 3 machines in the 35 - 40 lb. range? I'm not sure about the width of the Wascos, but Dexter 40 lb. washers are about 30" wide, so your space would accomodate 3 with room to spare.

My 40 lb. washers make the most money per linear foot of space than any other size washer in my store. I charge $4 per use.

Just a thought.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
