/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gifI am attempting to purchase equipment for a new laundry in so. MO. I have narrowed my distributership choices to Dexter and SpeedQueen. The Dexter rep. seems to have a much more involved and complete approach to helping me set up my store and is cheaper. The SQ rep. is a pleasant individual and is an hour closer to my location. Would SQ equipment have any major advantage over Dexter? Wouldn't an involved distributer be invaluable in setting up a new store? Thanks for any input!

My experience?

The more involved and knowledgeable your distributor, the better off you are. Even for those of us who have been involved in the business since dirt was invented need a distributor who is on the ball.

That said, I am also partial to Dexter and not so fond of SQ. A personal choice based on having had both over time. I find the Dexters are more mat-owner friendly than SQ. Fewer problems, easy to fix when there is the rare problem, and, in stainless, they hold their looks very well. Some of my Dex washers are 8 years old, but first-time customers think they're brand new.

In this business every one has an opinion. I guess mine is that I would buy SQ over Dexter. I bought Dexter for a store I had and was not pleased, especially with the dryers. Poor quality control and lots of lint everywhere, like in the electronics and the coin mechs.

A little while ago I went on a tour of the Speed Queen plant and was very impressed. Ask your SQ dealer about the cost savings in utility usage over other mechanical controlled machines. In my opinion the Dexter machines are mechanical units, with LED displays.

Tell the Speed Queen guy what your looking for, as in being more involved. It could be just style and perception. Most decent dealers really want the business and would do whatever to get your business.
