I have an idea for increasing my weekday turn ratio that I would like some feedback on if anyone has tried this and if I am asking for trouble. Some background, my Laundromat has 1300sf and I have 15TL’s and 8 FL’s, my weekend TR for the TL’s is about 4, but during the week it is closer to 2. I was thinking about
Changing the slides on 5 of them from $1.25 to .75 from Monday thru Thursday and then back to $1.25 for the weekends. My thought is to get people to come in to use the 5 TL’s early in the week so that it evens out my weekends. The downsides are that I have to switch out the slides 2x a week and if customers come in to use the 5 lower priced TL’s and they are busy they maybe pissed and not come back. This is a very low income area and my customer survey forms have indicated that customers on the weekends said they would come in on Monday or Tuesday if the wash price was lower. Any feedback would be appreiciated…

As a side note I increased my dry time on my 55# dryer and the revenue has more than doubled, thanks to everyone that provide me with feedback on my dryers!!!!

as long as you are not taking the weekend 1.25 and replacing it with the monday .75 If customers are leaving or not coming because you are so busy on weekends and you can get that biz monday thru thurs then by all means if not then all you will do is cut revenue.

At 4 TPD on the weekend I would say all you would be doing would be reducing your income at the hassle of changing the coin slides twice a week.

I do the same by using my card system to have reduced times during off peak hours and days. But, my Sundays are usually packed and I was having people leave before doing their wash during busy times. I have now moved some customers to different times at a reduced rate, but I have made more room for full paying customers.

congratulations for doing a customer survey, now you know what they want, and we don't!
It seems a lot of work swaping slides, but if you have extra, and extra time, give it a try, see how the customers react, as it seems they requested it.

Duane,
I know 4 turns for the weekend is low, but with 1300sf it gets crowded and customers seem to be bumping into each other. My plan would be to to try it on 5 of the 15 TL's for a couple of weeks and see what effect it has on my TL turns for the both the weekend and the week days. I think if I start it out as a temporary promotion, if it works I can continue it and if hurts my overall revenue then I can end it without offending too many customers.
Thanks for the feedback

I do my coin counts on Sunday and Thursday nights so I'm there already and I have 5 extra slides so I can change them out pretty fast. The best information from the survey was the customer address, I know where alot of my customers live and when I have some time I'll walk those area's with flyer's. Thanks for the feedback.

This sounds like alot of work, and a good chance you going to aggrevate someone(by only doing five), just to try and balance a 4 turn a day weekend and 2 turn a day week. It's my contention that no one goes to mats on weekends, unless they have to. I know what your survey said, but if it's that crowded, and they could come when it's less busy don't you think they would? Regardless of price. Maybe try a different promotion that doesn't require a price decrease. Once you lower , it's very difficult to go back or raise. The only thing you have done is cut your profit and reduced the amount of people in your store for a couple of hours on the weekend.

Personally, it sounds like way too much work for what it's worth. Also changing prices back and forth will only make customers mad who are not there at the "right" times. It's the nature of this business to be busy on weekends. When customers complain about how busy it is, I suggest to them days and times when business is slower, if they can work it into their schedules.
