TRUNNION: THE WELDED SHAFT & BRACE AT THE BACK OF A DRYER BASKET WHICH SUPPORTS THE DRUM.

I AM ABOUT TO OPEN A MAT AND APPROACHED A N.Y. HUEBSCH DEALER IN HOPES OF PURCHASING HIS DRYERS & ADC DRYERS.

HE SAID NO PROBLEM.

NOW THAT WE ARE DOWN TO THE WIRE HE TELLS ME HE CAN'T GET ADC AND THE HUEBSCH ARE BETTER ANYWAY.

HE GOES ON TO TELL ME THE HUEBSCH DRYERS HAVE A STRONGER TRUNNION AT THE BACK AND A SMALLER FIXED WHEEL LOCATED AT THE FRONT OF THE BASKET WHICH ADDS SUPPORT TO THE BASKET.

WHY.........BECAUSE OVER TIME THE BASKET ON THE ADC DRYER WILL SLOPE DOWNWARD BECAUSE IT IS ONLY SUPPORTED FROM THE BACK.

QUESTION: IS THIS A LEGITIMATE CLAIM? HAS ANYONE EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BASKETS SLOPE, BENDING OR LEANING FORWARD ON ADC DRYERS?

THANKS FOR THE INPUT.

I operate both Heubsch and ADC - and none of mine have little wheels in the front to hold the baskets up. They are supported by the trunnion assembly - a shaft going through 2 bearings. My dryers are about 7-10 years old. I've done several bearing and shaft jobs on the Heubsch - it's not really that bad of a job to do. I have yet (knock on wood) to do that to an ADC. Each manufacturer's product has its good features and problem issues.

Axial air flow dryers -- those that pull heated air in from the back of the drum and suck it out thru the front -- can have support wheels in the front sections of the drum that are outside the airflow pattern. These give the drum more support. But that is not a strike against dryers that don't have that support. Radial airflow dryers -- those that pull hot air thru the top of a perforated basket and out thru the bottom -- have been around a long time and their trunnions are stong enough to tumble wet laundry thru the drying period for many, many years. ADC 330 are axial flow with support wheels in front, ADC 236 are radial without, Huebsch stacks are axial with and their other models are radial without. What you can do is ask him if the support wheels are so important to basket support, why are they not installed on their 50# and 75# dryers? "Gotcha!"

Picking your dryer brand is your preference. I myself like ADC. They are a dryer company that makes nothing but dryers. And a perforated drum dryer won't get the gunky burnt brown build up on the back of the drum.

PeterH - That's exactly the reason I love this site. Excellent knowledge and excellent people willing to share it !
As for me, I am still pushing for the ADC dryer. Lets see how the story unfolds............................
