Did somebody get deleted for mentioning the other forum? Are they as upset with this forum?

The thread was not deleted for mentioning the other forum. The thread was deleted because, whether true or false, it painted that forum in an unpleasant light. We do our best here to keep the peace, and sometimes that means removing posts like what we pulled down this morning. It's also about a certain level of respect that we have for that site and our own for which the thread was deleted.
Edited to add: No one was deleted nor were they reprimanded. The thread was simply removed and I let the posters know.

Censorship BAD BAD BAD!!!!
As long as what is being said about a "competitor" is fair it should be allowed. Further, comments about people's opinions of equipment manufacturers' and vendor's should be allowed as well. Any of those people should be welcome to come here and respond to the comments.
Free speach should be encouraged as long as it does not violate any laws.
I promise not to shout that there is a fire on the bbs :)

Howard,
Isn't this kind of the stuff that drove us here in the first place? Shame on CLA!

Kim,
I really think that the CLA needs to re-evaluate their position on this issue. One of the reasons people utilize this forum is the openness of its members. When that openness begins to be taken away then you minimize the value of the forum.
I would hope that if the owner of the other site was not happy with what was posted that they would take the time to either defend their point of view or, better yet, listen to the feedback of their customers and attempt to make changes.
Regards,
Ben

What all of them said. As long as there are no slanderous comments, what's posted on the message board should remain on the message board.

Earlier this year our president and CEO Brian Wallace shared the stance of CLA and PlanetLaundry on matters like this in a very well-worded post to the forum. Please take a moment to read that here (http://bit.ly/v1SOdE).

Most of us have read Brian's well worded comments, that does not mean that as customers we like it or agree with it. Further these things should be reviewed from time to time otherwise the owner/ operator does not understand how his/her customers feel. Does not mean you have to change policy, just you need to be aware of it.
I agree with Howard and the others, deleting the two posts was a big mistake and sends a bad censorship message. I understand that there are posts that may go over the line....that thread didn't even come close. Sorry, you guys are flat out wrong on this one.

I disagree,to be fair to the other site, we should have been able to weigh in on the issue they had. Three posts just said the same kind of things about this site. Should they be deleted or discussed?

I've been deleted from many forums in the past for my outspoken, unfiltered comments. Funny how free speech is limited on something like the World Wide Web.

1) I, too, disagree with the thread being pulled. My personal feelings on the matter are far too long-winded to post here.
2) Just as counter-point, and for purposes of discussion: The bottom line is this board is private space and lightly-moderated. However much we may agree or disagree, the way in which the owner (CLA) chooses to run the forum is purely up to them.
3) Jeff- I don't think free speech is limited at all on the WWW. Anyone can express any viewpoint they choose by setting up a self-hosted site... just not within a forum owned and operated by a private party.
4) Another concept to remember is that some folks are here all the time and respond quickly, while others may only be on the boards to reply weekly or monthly. I would wager there's a good bit of discussion, thought, consideration, re-consideration and (MAYBE) some opinion or policy changing for this and other topics that just can't happen right now because of holidays, family business, business closures, busy schedules, year-end wrap-up, etc. As long as this thread stays positively and constructively focused, I'd sure like to see it remain as guidance for the deep-thinking that may or may not be ongoing.
