Dear CLA,
I am a new owner and have an anoying problem with my less than one year old Speed Queen top loaders. These machines have the digital display and are computer controlled. Every few days one of my 15 machines "locks up." Usually, after the customer inserts his coins, the tub fills with water and the machine stops working. The way I fix this is to lift the bulkhead cover, unplug the machine and plug it back in, and the machine starts working normally. Does anyone have this same problem? Why does it happen? What can I do about it? Thanks for your feedback.

Sincerely,
Frank Hamann

I don't have a solution since I own Maytag, but I am curious if you have contacted your distributor. Shouldn't these be covered under warranty?

I agree with Duane, this should be a problem fixed by those who sold the machines. For another opinion try posting this question in the repair section of www.coinwash.com (http://www.coinwash.com)
They have a tech who is quite good at this sort of thing.

I've had the same problem for 4 years. While under warranty the SQ tech replaced alll the control boards and installed filters in some wiring harnesses. It still occurs. I was basically told to live with it. The electronically controlled frontloaders ocasionally do it also. Supposedly caused by static electricity.

Are you sure that all the outlets are properly grounded? With all the electronic circuitry in modern equipment each outlet should have a ground wire all the way back to your sub panel. When I built my store I ran a ground wire from every outlet back to the sub panel without any splices. I also never used the conduit for a ground source.

Improper grounding can cause all sorts of problems.

Most manufacturers will not warranty problems caused by incorrect wiring.

Duane.
