IS THIS A REAL OWNER ABSENTEE BUSINESS. HOW MANY HOURS PER WEEK SHOULD YOU WORK INSIDE THE LAUNDROMAT.

If you are going to run a good mat, you should plan on a couple hours a day, every day. You can get a day off here and there.
The more you work, the more you make.

Yes, time is valuable. The problem is that their are too many people in this business that think it is a profitable "runs itself" hobby. Of course I love to compete with absentee stores!

I have one store which is about 1300 miles from my home. That makes me an absentee owner. My manager runs the place better than I could. There can't be a lot of manager candidates that good and that trustworthy. If you find one, reward and cherish her.

Let's re-phrase then, I guess we are refering to absentee managers. Marianne you are very lucky to have such an employee, you are right to cherrish her! I have one like that too, but she is getting old and I worry about the work load on her sometimes. No fancy computer system or cameras are going to replace on site management in this buisness anytime soon.

Yes Lee, I am very lucky. I also have an older employee, she has been working for my family since the 60's at least. Several years ago she got Meniere's disease and would be overtaken with spells of dizziness. I did not want to lose her. She is like a stabilizer for the business. She has been through it all at least four times and knows what won't work. So the terms of her employment changed. She got a big easy chair. She always had an assistant, usually someone who needed training. She worked the hours and days that suited her. The competence among the staff improved with the training they got. The confidence also. Everyone saw that a good worker would get good care. The staff at that store are remarkable for good cheer, helpfulness and loyalty. Rita is back on her feet now and doesn't require so much help, but I am sure glad we could keep her.

I have an unatended store and I spend 2 to 4 hours there a day, more than I need to but if you want a clean and a nice place you will need to put in the time. If you want a passive investment this is not it. 7 days a week can get old if your not ready for it.
