I just bought a "washateria" in Houston, TX and would like to do a promotion such as the gold coin promotion that Duane mentioned on some previous post.
My question would be how do you get the unique gold coin (or how to create a custom gold coin) so that you can tell from a fake coin.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Get the specs of your bill changer from the manufacturer spec sheets.
Go to www.tokensdirect.com (http://www.tokensdirect.com) and find a coin that meets your bill changer spec - and work with them.
If you have a logo - they will custom do your logo on a token for $400 plus the minimum Qty tokens. You will only use 6-7 tokens - but well worth the cost to custom make your own token.
Then you can give away cash , free detergent , anything you want to when the token comes out of the bill changer.

I gave my manager 7 tokens - 5 - $5
1 - $25
1 - $50
to randomly put in the bill changer when coins are collected.

I also put up a bulletin board and bought a polaroid camera and take pictures of all winners and post on the board to show people we are actually giving away money and not a scam.

There may be a cheaper way, that is how money is made.
Most general token should be able to use in the changer, check the manufactors. Then go to Ebay and buy a bag for $10, or even go to a car wash, Chuckie Cheese, wherever tokens are and buy some. Then paint some red, green, yellow, each meaning a certain denomination or freebie.

You could paint and mark quarters and acomplish the same thing. $400 for custom tokens? If used daily maybe, but just for giveaways, I would not splurge. As long as you are attended, another idea I heard of or thought up, don't remember which, was to mark soap boxes, so if you bought a soap from the vendor and got a box that was marked you got a free wash or something. Might spur soap vend purchaces.
