Hi: For years I have hired local kids to clean out our dryer lint collection bins (single pocket). Has anyone tried an industrial vacuum? What type do you use? Any other methods out there to clean the bins?

My 10 yr old nephew can't wait to clean the dryers when he visits. I let him keep whatever he finds in exchange for his labor... I have thought about dragging a shop vac around. Right now I use a toilet brush,( just for lint of course) just kind of grab the lint in a pile and toss it in the trash.

I tried a woodworker's dust vac. The top bag would get clogged and blow right off the vac. Spread lint all over.

I use a shop vac that you can pick up at Wood Workers. It is named FIEN I think German. It has a cloth type filter and works great no dust flying around then I empty it outside after 2 or 3 cleanings. It comes with a 20 foot hose I think and it's very quite.
It's disigned for sanding plaster so lint is no problem for it.

We have the attendants clean the lint dryers. We have the Maytag double stack dryers that are as easy to clean as the home dryer lint basket. Our old 30-50lb huebsch dryers, have a (Im not sure what it is called), but it has a screen of some sort, with sticks on each side. The lint falls, and what doesn't we use a thin stick to help the lint fall onto the sceen. The screen is then picked up and thrown away. Fairly simple, one full time attendant is assigned the duty.

I use a 16 gallon ShopVac. It works just fine. The filter tends to get clogged, so I just shake it out before each cleaning over a big trash can.

I use a Sears shop-vac that works well, I have hired neighborhood kids to do the job (I have single pocket SQ 30#) and let them keep what they find.

I'm considering installing a shop type vacuum that would be attached to a metal pipe system, thereby allowing me to use the system while customers are in the store and without the noise of the vacuum itself. My questions is, does anyone have any experience with the vacuum being TOO strong such that it sucks in the lint screen on the dryer? My second question is for those folks who have used a shop vac type of unit... was there any problem with dust/lint particles getting through the vacuum and settling on the surrounding area? Thanks for your comments.

We use a shop-vac type. The attendants clean the lint traps everyday (basket type with lint screen). I have one person who comes in for the last 2 hours every night (9-11)and gives the place a good scrubbing for the next day. Saturdays we close at 7 and he stays until 9. This is when he breaks out the shop-vac, aka R2D2. Don't forget to check the end of the rail the lint baskets travel in. They get clogged up and can leave a big gap where the basket should fit snug at the back.

We have traditionally have had the attendants clean the heubsch dryers until recently. Attendants have hurt their backs doing so??? Anyhow, since I had to do it. We tried a shop vac, a fairly expensive fast sucking one! I cleaned probably 6-8 dryers before I had to change dump it. That was slightly messy, but the job is. It was too easy with the shop vac! Have fun!
