Can someone please explain what stringing is and how it works on bill changers? I just received a notice from American that Coinco validators are now known to be prone to "stringing". I've heard the name for several years and know it has to do with filching money. Thanks.

Stringing is when someone ties a string (or nylon fishing line) to a bill and inserts it in your changer. They quickly use the string to pull the bill backout, after it trips the mechanism to give them the quarters. Thus, they get your quarters and you don't get their bill.

Howard, thanks for the information. I figured it was something like that. It's interesting that every time I've tried to remove a stuck bill by pulling it out from the front of the validator, I've ripped it. I guess I'll never make a good crook.
