Gas supplier alternatives in CA

Do any of you, based in northern CA, buy your gas from anyone other than PGE? How can I find about these suppliers?

Are you talking about locking in a rate with a supplier. Right now gas rates are at an all time low. I received a call about locking in a low rate. When I looked into It I would pay the supplier for the gas, but then I would also receive another bill from the Gas Co. for the transportation charges, so It didn't make much sense.

There are 3 components to your gas bill. There is a charge for the gas that you are burning up. There is another charge for delivering (via pipeline) the gas to your building. There are additional charges for the taxes and surcharges.

When you buy the gas from a 3rd party company other than your gas distributor (pipeline) company; the distributor normally sends you a monthly bill that still includes all 3 types of charges but the money you're paying for the gas is sent to the new gas supplier and the taxes are sent to whomever and the distributor keeps the money for bringing the gas to your building. For example: My single, monthly gas bill included all of the following charges:

Billed for distributor:
Customer charge $25
Gas distribution charge $405
U-16257 surcharge $43
U-16757 surcharge $28
Energy Optimization $20
Michigan Sales Tax $31

Billed for gas supplier:
Gas charge $865
Michigan Sales Tax $52

There are additional charges for the taxes and surcharges so difficult to judge..

peoples gas customer charge 50.00 distribution charge .24827 x the # therms used. swing charge .01270 per therm franchise fee . gross receipt tax . to pro energy the supplier i pay .58 per therm plus state sales tax . my friend has propane it cost him last month 1.76 per unit. My gas with with all fees is .968 per therm . that is with locking in therm cost @ .58

Hey guys sorry for the absence. I've been super busy at "work" and I also wanted to do some research on the xoom energy procurement fee before I posted. After talking to a few friends who own homes and businesses in the Sacramento/NorCal area all of them have found success by switching over to xoom energy for gas. One in particular has been with xoom for almost a year. I've also read some posts online that bash xoom so I'm not sure if the procurement/transportation fee changes from state-to-state/county-to-county? If anyone has any insight please enlighten! The last thing I want to do is lock friends and family into a shady deal.

Hey everybody I've figured out the monthly fee and how it affects pg&e customers. The way it works is that the alternative energy supplier charges a monthly $4.99 fee to businesses so unless the gas bill is more than $83 no saving will occur.

Breaking down the numbers:

Pge rate=$0.497/therm +an avg of $0.50 for other fees=0.997/therm
Alternative rate=$0.435/therm +an avg of $0.50 for other fees=0.935/therm

Savings will equal an avg of $0.06 for every dollar minus the monthly fee

For example a bill totaling $1000 would see a savings of $55.01 leaving a bill of $944.99.

$1000x.06=$60 saved
$1000-$60=$940 bill
$940+$4.99 fee=$944.99 final bill saving $55.01

A bill of $83.17 would break even

$83.17x$0.06=$4.99 savings-$4.99 monthly fee=$0 saved

The fee for residential properties is $2.99 so the customer saves on any bill more than $50.00.

Hey everybody I've been MIA for a minute but just wanted to stop by and give everyone a little update on our therm rates compared to those of PG&E. My affiliate company is currently offering a variable rate of $0.2776/therm while PG&E rates were $0.38/therm for March and are projected to go back up to $0.41/$0.53 going into summer.
