that's even more interesting or mysterious-er, that they're your neighbor for over half-century and i would've thought every households in MI would have amway products. that's just weird, amway is the pioneer of the industry known as network marketing (nwm) or multilevel marketing (mlm).
i could tell you lots info on the mlm industry. my first explosure to the industry was as a kid in high school or junior high and my relatives just started in their amway business. decades later i went to graduate school seeking ways to create productive teams/groups in project management, i came across the concepts use in the mlm industry, particularly their compensation plans. i devoted much of my graduate studies in the concepts of the nwm industry. it's fascinating if you do your own investigations, instead take the things people said about the industry. to me, it seems that the very core (seed) of a capitalistic society emerged from the concepts of mlm.
anyways, there are thousands of mlm companies throughout the world. there are over 2000 of them in america.
i'm just really surprise you said amway is a mysterious company, especially that their legal battle with the federal trade commission (ftc) of the united states lasted for many years, costing millions of dollars, and the victory of that battle set the foundation of the mlm industry worldwide. the amway owners own the nba magic basketball, some islands in either the pacific or atlantic ocean (can't remember which), as well as help funding much much money for many presidents of the united states.
to most people without a mind/brain of their own, they just take the info that other people rumor to them that the mlm companies are merely in an industry full of cheaters, scammers, trouble markers, expensive products/services, etc....but to find the truth, you should do your own investigation. and i think the secret is though not to be within it, to see it because as the saying that if you're inside a box then it is only the inside of the box that you see, and that becomes your world view of the box. but if you have the capacity to be in as well as out of the box, then you should have a better view of the box.
i could tell you many things about tqm, six sigma system, cosmology, quantum physics, etc too. but these for some people would be in another world unrelated to laundromats. one of my former professors often said "you cannot be a pioneer following someone else" and my parents many times told us that "if you got three hours to chop down a tree, you need to spend two hours sharpening your ax".
anyways, i think success in anything has something to do with your abilities to borrow, transfer, take, etc from many of your experiences to apply to what you do. book smart is only half the knowledge to succeed, the other half is actually doing the work. even lines from cartoon shows like GI Joes can teach you how to succeed, such as that line they always said that "knowing is half the battle"
oh, i think their success is in their system. do you or anyone ever wonder how the coke (coca cola) company became a multinational multi-billion dollars company or that new energy drink company redbull became a multi-billion dollars company in less than a decade making that co-owner sales guy a billionaire, who now own a team/player of just about every sport in the world, including nasq car racing, the aeroplane racing, the mls soccer team in ny/nj, etc?
so what is that these people do that we mat owners don't do or that we should do? something to ponder
