Jeff,
It seems that Duds & Sudds turned out to be more Dud than anything else.

Searching turns up quite a few still open... I wonder if the franchise is still alive as a going interest, or if all the named stores are simply independently owned and kept the franchise name. Either way, to look at the "duds" in the operation, I wonder if the chain model, the franchise model, or the individual store operation was the root cause of failure/closure/sale....?
Seems like multi-store ownership (be it franchise, corporate or ambitious single-owner) is on the up-swing... the days of the mom 'n pop small-time operation are gone... at least in my markets.

The only one I remember was in Columbia ,SC. It was more of a bar with washing machines than a laundry with beer. All toploaders and small dryers and had that stale beer smell.

Would never fly here in NJ, why would anyone waste the cost of a liquor license on such a small operation.

Howard,
That's right. I think it was just a passing fad. I doubt that any remaining Sudds & Duds even offer beer these days. I think it was a franchise without legs.

You can ask Phil yourself what happened. Looks like he has bounced around a number of executive jobs, and is here on Twitter.
