Point of fact: The USA is NOT a democracy by founding and definition. Our country was set up as a Constitutional Republic. Sure, there are some democratic elements, but things would be radically more socialist than they already are if democracy ruled.

Well said! Pure democracy is very dangerous - as the majority is usually wrong!

My entire quote put it in better context I believe: "In a perfect world we would have healthy competition for everything. If we make democracy work ... there is hopefully a chance ... if we pay attention to the people we elect & help elect ... who maintain reasonable guidelines ... for those mega monopolies that people are the most vulnerable to."

To set the record straight: Notice my words are in the context of who we elect ... which I observe you conveniently left out in your post ... which could slightly distort with the word "democracy" out of context. I could have put the words both constitutional & republic in front of democracy but we all know we have 3 branches of government ... Right? I agree our founding fathers wisely chose to avoid a "direct democracy" A direct democracy would be uncomfortably close to anarchy for me & hopefully for most of us!

Mike, there is a major problem with what you are saying, and it is contained in another famous quote - "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". As long as we have politicians we will have corrupt politicians that are out for themselves and not for the people they "represent".

Just take a look at the number of millionaires in congress that have only been career politicians - ask yourself where did their money come from.
