You see we are only partially staffed. So an extra 5 to 10 hours on Saturday.

I see a great opportunity to find a good employee. Once you get the right person, gradually reduce your problematic employee's hours (i.e. 10 hours at a time) till she gives up. Or at some point, she will threaten to quit, then you can gladly show her the door out.

Yup, spot on. I inherited a pair of employees (husband and wife) when I bought my store years ago. The woman was a part-time attendant and the husband came in to clean and close at night. Neither one was great, but they were not worth the effort to fire and end up paying unemployment on. One day I caught the woman working at a competing laundromat during her off hours. The next time she was at work I explained that it was not acceptable for her to work here and at the competitor and that she had to make a choice. She should either work there or work here, but I could not have her here if she was also working for the competitor. I told here to take a week and think about it. She came back to me and said she talked with her husband and they decided that it would be best for them to resign. I thanked her and moved on. Got rid of two not so great employees and quickly added good ones.
