I need to replace a motor on a Dexter stack dryer. Tech information seems to be the best kept secret on the web, I can't find any information or diagrams. Is it as easy as removing the 2 wheels and the 6 or so nuts to pull off the motor and cowling?
Lose the belts first. You need to remove the mounting plate to get the motor out,you may able to reuse mounting plate, pully and fan, check the mounting plate, if the welding break ,fix it or buy a new plate.
Dexter use larger bolts in the newer model dryers. If you have small bolt in the mounting plate, buy a new plate and bolts, use some blue lock tie on the bolts when you reinstall it.
While you are back there be sure to check the condition of your motor bolts on all your dryers.. Just last month I found 2 motors that were being held on by 1 bolt!! Looks as though the older design had problems with breaking bolts. Oh and don't forget to grease the main wheel.
There is 1 nut that is tough to get, I use a flip socket wrench on it. Your motor probably need new switchs and bearing, a motor shop can fix it. dexter had trouble with motors in dryers built 1999-2002 or so
