I have Huebsch Stacked dryers (model JTO300) and they are constantly having problems not heating up. Problems range from Gas-coils, Ignitors, etc. Sometimes, the flame stays on a long time and seem to get really hot and then the it doesn't re-ignite again. My repairman thinks it might be related to the Lint not being cleaned, but I'm not sure. Any ideas on how to pinpoint the issues. Also, aside from Gas-coils, Ignitors, any other point where it would make the flame not come on ?
It could be a thermister problem. It sounds like the dryer temperature is being regulated by the high limit thermostat rather than the thermister. That could account for the large fluctuation in temperature and the failure of the gas to turn on at times.
Check your parts book to find where the thermisters are located on your dryers. It's generally not difficult to replace one once you know where to look.
Thanks for the tip. I took a look at the parts book and see that there is the thermistor and also the thermostat, High-limit. Can you help me understand what the difference is between the two pieces ? What do they do ?
The high limit is a safety thermostat that merely keeps the dryer from burning itself (and the load) up when the thermister fails. The high limit doesn't come into play under normal condtions.
The thermister is the operating thermostat that cycles the gas on and off once the dryer has reached the customer selected operating temperature. The thermister controls the temperature range the dryer will operate at. When you program the High, Medium and Low temperatures into your dryer's computer, those temperatures are "read" by the thermister.
If your thermisters are like mine, you simply pull off the 2 wires and then unscrew the thermister by hand from it's mounting surface. No tools required accept to gain access to it.
There are 2 thermostats in Huebsch STO dryers. The (1) thermister, and lower cabinet thermostat is located in the access door in the bottom. Pay attention to the temps marked on your thermostats. The lower temp one goes in the bottom, and the one marked with a higher temp is the high cabinet thermostat(burner one). Don't mix them up! I would say that if the dryer doesn't even fire the burner on start up it is most often the gas valve coil. If it fires on start up, reaches temp. and the burner goes out( normal ) but then won't re-ignite, it is the thermister as Larry has suggested.
Thanks for the additional info. I took a look at my parts book and I see the two thermostats: one is called Thermostat (Stove Limit) which is connected to the upper cabinet and the 2nd Thermostat (high-limit) is next to the Thermistor in the lower cabinet. This is really helpful to know. I really hope this will resolve some of my issues, because my customers are constantly complaining that the dryers are not heating up. Thanks again !
