Push up on the perforated stainless steel basket to see if there is any slop between the shaft and the front bearing.
Usually the front bearing will get some water and freeze up and wear down the softer shaft.
Even a sixteenth inch of wear on the shaft will translate to quite a bit of basket movement, and noise while the thing is spinning.
I've heard of people running these machines with bad bearings right up until the shaft on the basket snaps. That's gotta be pretty noisy.
