Self Wash Down in December
I am here in NJ and self wash is down 11% from November.
Anyone in NJ or east coast seeing the same?
From last December, sw revenue is up 8% but that is only because I raised prices significantly.
Turns are down 20% from last december.

I was down in October from the year before but only by about $400 but then my November was up by $400 over the November before. My december so far is holding pace with last Decemeber.

It is offical. My December is going to be the worst month of the year!
So far trending to be 13% less than last december...
and I am not a happy camper!
This week someone left me a note( no phone number or name) that my dryers are inefficient. Do any of you guys hear this? The bulk of my dryers are SQ STD32DG they are set to the highest temp with only 1 minute cool down.
Niave question. Do any of you guys hear this? Any thoughts. This plus the sales being down is killing me.
Thanks
Danny

Customer Complaints Can Be More Irritating Than Useful

Danny,
I hear you - my sales are weak also. I think it's a midwest thing with the auto, RV and boat industries down the tube right now. Hang in there, it'll come back.
When a customer says a dryer is "inefficient" he really means it's "not effective". In other words, he's complaining that the dryer didn't dry fast enough (which is the way you took the complaint too). So the first question is: What dryer was he using and how much time did he buy? Perhaps there is something wrong with that one particular dryer. Maybe he expected his clothes to dry in 12 minutes. Don't take his complaint as an assessment of all of your dryers. Since he left no way to contact him for additional information, there is little you can do until someone else complains about a particular dryer.

SEF,
Just test your Dryers, then know it's working OK or not....

Newbie,
You expect him to test all his dryers ... with clothes in each one ... for a complaint that may not even be ligitimate?

As I posted in another thread re dryer efficiency, it is my understanding that drying times are affected by atmospheric humidity. Right now yours is 80%, which is typical of December in your part of the world.
Tell your customers that if they don't like their dry times they can come back in an afternoon in May, when the humidity is likely to be closer to 57%....
Or you could move your mat to Arizona.

testing dryer doesn't neccssarily require clothes in it.
if he doesn't know which dryer, he should test them all,
but I believe he knows the one.

Since I've finally gotten my make up air to the point where it needs to be, I've had less complaints, mind you it's only been a week lol. I know it doesn't make a huge difference but I still believe colder outside temperatures will increase the dry time by a little.
I get the "dryers" suck comment usually from ppl who over fill or under fill the machine and then only put a couple quarters in. I may reduce my cooldown from 2 minutes to 1 minute, what do you guys think?
I've never been a fan of increasing dryer temperatures to 180 because of the inherent risk of damaging the clothing be it short term or over the long term. My new dryers coming in though (45 stacks) have 4 temp settings, I may increase the high temp setting to the high end and put a disclaimer on the machine. I may also have the machine set to $1.00 to start to avoid ppl thinking a big 45lb will dry in a quarter and keep checking it after that quarter.

for the 60 seconds of decreasing your cool down time is not going to make a difference in overall satisfaction.
remember the cool down is only on the last 2 minutes of time. I have set all my dryers to 2 minute cool down. The only complaint I heard was from my attendant.
A domestic dryer has cool down cycles set to approx 5 minutes. I have never heard anyone complain about that.
About the heat complaint what is the amount of times your lint filters are cleaned per day/week?
