card systems for card operated mats?
how many are out there?
what have your experience been with the one you used, is using, or no longer use?
are there some systems that will operate across all brands of laundry equipment?
is magnetic strip or smart card the way to go....and why?
your thoughts are greatly appreciated
thanks

Suggest that you do a search and ask more specific questions later.

As far as I know, Dexter EasyCard is proprietary to Dexter equipment. All of the other systems I've looked at (CCI, ESD, WashCard, LaundryCard, etc.) seem to work with any electronic control equipment.
Having said that, I'm getting to know EasyCard well enough to realize it's pretty standard stuff, and with a little "mental elbow grease" they can be made to control all sorts of stuff - Carwashes, vending machines, video games, bathroom doors, etc...
I chose a mag card system mostly because the mag cards are much less expensive (I can make my own for around $.25 each, whereas smartcards were running between $1.00 and $4.00 each. A big part of my promotion that sets me apart from the competition is that I don't charge for cards (yet)...
I'm sure there are other card store owners with more experience than myself, but so far I'm happy with my choice.

This is exactly the reason I went card... My $2600 deposit yesterday:
- took about 5 minutes to make up
- required no weighing
- could be easily carried in one hand
Customers, on the other hand, have this "casino mentality" where they spend more because all they see is the little green card... Vending sales are running near 10% of revenue on a slow week.
After converting my coin store, I'll never go back to those heavy old things! Granted, cash is still king... No checks or credit card batches to deal with at all...

Here is what i can do....
Go into my iphone anytime i want and see how much my place is making, how much each customer spends, see how many times a customer has visited my place, how many turns i get, oh and change my prices right from my iphone...
The card system is great in many ways, i also feel many customers do enjoy it and guess what i have around $6k in float right now.

cost has gone down alot... it depends on your store size and what kind of card system you like.

around 40k has been the norm when I looked into it for less than 50 machines. One 8 store operator only adds card when he re tools the complete store. According to him does not make sense otherwise.
