Customers Only Using Dryers
Past month or so, I have noticed many Coin Op locations I have visited had only Dryers working and not the washers. I saw a customer also came in with a load of wet laundry ? Are they washing at home and using the dryers to save $$$$. Have you noticed this in your area?

Yep, sure have. I welcome dry only customers. You have to price your dryers for a profit.

The Laundromat As A Back-up Plan

Primo,
Sometimes a customer will have a washer and dryer at home. The dryer breaks down one day so the customer brings her wet clothes to the laundromat to dry only. Or, the washer breaks down and the customer brings her clothes to the laundromat to wash only. The local laundromat is a great back-up plan when something goes wrong in the home's laundry room.
On the other hand, maybe the laundry equipment in the home cannot handle the queen sized quilt so the customer brings it to the local laundromat where she will find larger machines. There are plenty of reasons why people with home laundry equipment will need to visit a laundromat from time to time.

I have customers that live in apt. complexes and use the apt. community washers, but don't like the dryers, so they use mine. Some customers wash clothes at a friends or relatives house and use my dryers because they don't want to overstay their welcome at friends/relatives house with long dry times. Other customers use bathtub at home and my dryers. I have customers that wash at cheaper laundromats and then come over to mine because my dryers are reliably hot.

I've seen a number of dry-only customers come into the store this summer, and my conclusion -- though it may be wrong -- is that they're trying to keep their house as cool as possible.

I know lots of owners don't allow dry only, never quite understood that. If you price your dryers correctly they should be welcomed customers. My dryers ar 46 cents for 7 minutes and I am very happy to have anyone that wants use them.

You know this was covered in a previous post about dry only.
I also welcome dry only; wash only; vend only; change only; travel directions only; drop off only; fire extinguisher inspection only; storage units rental only; arcade game only; and bathroom only. I had a person come to my place to watch the basket ball playoffs because I had it and his house did not. He was very entertaining! Now he comes and brings his laundry!
You never know why any person will come in, later to become a $ revenue stream.

Thats a very good point. However how do you find the correct cost? If the incomming gas is used to heat water, heat laundromat air and dry clothes, estimating the cost of the gas should be very difficult.

Its really very easy, just put cheap hour meters on the water heater and space heater for the laundromat. That will tell you how many hours they run and you should be able to look up the burn rate. Subtract that from your total gas consumption and now you know the gas consumption for your dryers.
