Dexter 400 not starting

Ok I have a dexter 400. I place quarters in and the counter counts down. Enter the last quarter and it takes 2 seconds and the machine acts like you never inserted money.
i can start the machine by advancing the timer inside and it runs fine.
Any ideas? I swaped out the little PC board in the front and it still does the same.

Are you absolutely positive the control board you swapped with was a known working board?

yes, i took it off the machine next to it that works.

I have plenty of ideas, but since I"m no coin expert, it would probably be worth a call to Dexter.

If the PC board is known good, what about the mechanism itself? Is the counter that counts down the coins on the coin drop or on the control board?

Case,

Generally, the coin drop has a simple switch or sensor that is momentarily closed when a coin passes just before going into the coin box. The actual counting of the coins is accomplished on a separate, solid state coin board which also activates the machine. Pricing is set on this board. On newer machines like my Huebsch washers, the coin board has been eliminated and its functions have been taken over by the main micro-processer board.

So Larry any ideas what is causing it to reset after the last qtr goes in?

I swapped out the coin board with a working machine.

I haven't owned or worked on a Dexter in about 5 years. If it's not the coin board, I'd check the coin switch to make sure it's not sticking closed or something. Lastly, I'd trying switching the timer with a working machine to see if the problem follows.

Danny, If it isn't the coin accumulator board, it could be the coin accumulator transformer is failing. It is supposed to step down voltage to the board (12vac output) Check it. The coin accumulator should close a circuit sending control voltage to the timer on an orange with a white striped wire. Check for a short 120VAC output on the last coin on that wire. It's somewhere around there.
