I have two card stores and probably would go coin if I had to do it again. 90% of my machine issues are related to card system. I also hate that one little server or backup battery can close your entire store.
For example, I broke my leg about 18 months ago. I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights. The first morning out I get a call from the attendant saying the entire system is down. I had to have the mom drive me down lol. The only issue was the backup battery was down. I had to wobble around opening the tops of the machines to start the washers while my mom went to pickup a new backup battery. In all the store was only down for like 3 hrs but the thought of stuff like this happening has made me extremely paranoid.
Two days ago, a customer says he put $20 on a card and lost it (not the machine ate it but he misplaced it) He proceeded to get another $20 card. About 5 minutes later he comes up to me laughing saying the card was stuck to the screen of his iphone. I refunded one of his cards and everything was fine. This time it worked out fine but i am sure dozens of times this has happened and the customer does not return.
If I had to do it again, I probably would go with a mixture of dollar coins, quarters and a CC system like spyderwash.

I have had a card store for 6yrs, If you have the right tools you never have to go to the store. I can remotely turn my computers on or off. I have a server and then a back up server. I think you dont have the right setup for a card store that needs a server.. Anyone knows that when you use a server you must always have a back up to it running side by side.

What kind of system do you have that a battery backup failure would bring the entire store down? I have had a CCI System (complete redundancy) for over 10 years and my store has never been down. I can run on one CPU only without a problem automatically and it has never been necessary.
I don't see the problem with a customer losing their card and having to get another one. If they are registered, I can easily transfer the balance to a new card in seconds. If they are not registered, they are out of luck just like cash.
BTW, what type of other issues are you having that 90% of your problems are card-related? My biggest problem is bra wires in drains and I can't figure out which system will eliminate that :-)

James,
I think a system where all women were always topless would totally eliminate the bra wire in drain issue.

Wow you must attract bad luck. In twelve years I never had problems like that with my Easycard system.

Larry,
I may not always agree with you, but sometimes your creative thinking sends me into a new, positive direction. Topless laundry it is! I'll start working on the marketing copy tonight.

First Larry comes up with cage dancers in his laundromat, now topless laundry... If you hadn't noticed, a few poles mounted floor to ceiling are FAR less expensive to install than washers and dryers... Is your business model evolving again, Larry?
