We did it back in high school and the lead teacher told us to be careful as you could get in trouble. I will look into it.

It never hurts to have a scantly clad teen out front waving a sign at passer by's. If you are there for long periods of time park your vehicle out front with a sign draped over it giving an extreem discount for like only 3 washers , heck mc donalds has 3 size coffees for the same price you do not think that gets customers I have yet to get the large coffee to big for me,

Print up some single-sided ad/coupons, and take to your local food delivery folks (Steak-Out, Papa John's, Domino's, etc), & offer the manager some discount cards, etc. for themselves and their employees in exchange for sending out your ad with each delivery/carry-out.

Check out local restaurants that have paper placemats with ads on them. Get the contact info for the company that creates them and get your ad there. Unless competition in the placemat forum is intense, you won't even have to offer a discount!
This can be a great way to be found by folks that are new to the area.

You can also advertise to your customers. I read reports about how people who own their own business also became affiliates for various offers such as Netflix. How this works is that the people that come into their store, you offer them a 30 day free trial of Netflix (which is the offer you are promoting) and then you get commission for a sign up.
Is anyone currently doing something like this to generate extra income during the slower days?

To complicated. Remember we are not making restaurant type money. Laundrys are a small business, I mean small. Most stores cant afford to spend more then $100 or so a month on advertising. Flyers work the best and our the cheapest. Problem is you have to be running some type of promo to catch those new customers.

I have used yard type signs made of corrugated plastic and mounted to a heavy wire frame. They are cheap, effective, and you can use them over and over. You do need grass or dirt to stick them in. I had a set of 8 advertising a 3 day promo. Every few months, we would put them out near the street about 15 yards apart. Very easy to set up in the morning, and take down at night.
Good luck
