Too often, the only time we hear or read about coin laundries in the mainstream media is when they’re the scene of a crime or the punch line of a bad joke. However, during this holiday season, we’ve come across a number of feel-good laundry-related stories as well – so we thought we’d share:
• A new laundromat in Uxbridge, Ontario, is partnering with the Salvation Army to collect and clean sleeping bags for the organization's summer camp program.
Angie Smith, co-owner of Wash Worx, said anyone with a new or gently used sleeping bag or blanket can drop it off at the laundromat throughout December and January, and the items will be cleaned, dried and donated to children attending the Salvation Army's summer camp program.

• For about four years, a devoted group of women have been trekking to local laundromats, lugging not detergent bottles and boxes of softener, but baskets of books.
Members of the local Delta Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, the women handpick children's book titles from all interests and reading levels, leave them at the laundromats and later return to clean the books and replenish the selections.

• Green Bay's Preble High School opened "The Hive" last year. It's a donation center where homeless or low-income students can get clothes or school supplies for free.
This year students realized they needed to do more.
While life goes on as normal in the halls of Preble High, in the basement you find something far from it – a laundromat.
