Maytag and Whirlpool Commercial Laundry have reported that they are on schedule to meet new Department of Energy conservation standards for commercial laundry toploading and frontloading washers, due to take effect in 2013.
The DOE states that conservation standards for topload and frontload commercial laundry washers will help save an estimated 143 billion gallons of water a year in the United States, while the cumulative energy and water cost savings is estimated at $400 million.
Also, these standards will produce a reported savings in greenhouse gas emissions that are projected to be the equivalent of taking 5.1million cars off the road.
“The new standards will help our nation save a significant amount of water, energy and, eventually, greenhouse gas emissions,” said J.B. Hoyt, director of regulatory affairs and state government relations at Whirlpool Corp. “We're confident that we will have the technology to meet these standards, while still providing superior cleaning performance. It's the right thing to do for the future of our industry and our country.”
