Earl Nightingale in his famous audio recording, “The Strangest Secret”, states, “We become what we think about.” Napoleon Hill wrote in his book, “Think and Grow Rich”, that, “The way to success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge.” Leaders throughout history have explained the difference between those who succeed and those who settle for mediocrity and simply drift through life – those who find success do so through the power of thought. Highly successful people make time for themselves to do things that inspire thought and propel their business forward. Three important aspects of getting to new heights in one’s life and business include: ...

The ride-hailing service has notified its users in an email that it will be shutting down UberRush, which has been doing deliveries for businesses in New York City, San Francisco and Chicago since 2015. Uber has confirmed the shutdown to TechCrunch , telling the publication that it’s applying the lessons it learned from running the division to its UberEats food delivery business. Unlike UberRush, UberEats drummed up enough interest to expand to more than 200 markets around the world. In fact, restaurants used to be able to deliver ...

Minimum Wage Update: Elections Driving Legislative Activity The last federal minimum wage increase – to $7.25 per hour, from $6.55 per hour – occurred on July 24, 2009. In the years since Congress last increased the minimum wage, state and local leaders across the country have introduced countless minimum wage proposals, activists have worked to place ballot measures before voters, and companies have taken it upon themselves to increase wages for workers. This year is no different. In 2018, legislators in 33 states and Congress have introduced nearly 150 bills to increase the minimum wage and ballot measures are possible in four states thus far. Currently, ...

I own a successful coin laundry in a small town in the Midwest. One of my promotions is giving my customers free detergent – all they need Monday through Friday. The problem I have is that some of the customers use too much of the detergent and over-suds the washers. I was thinking of mixing the detergent with water, cutting it by 50 percent. Will this work? Should I do it? It depends on the detergent. Some detergents contain solids that emulsify only when heated at a certain temperature and given a certain amount of time. Some less-expensive detergents emulsify in warm water only. You could try mixing your detergent with warm water and then let the solution ...

Here’s What to Consider Before Launching Your Wash-Dry-Fold Service [This is the first in a series of columns on running a successful wash-dry-fold business.] I’ve been receiving a lot of phone calls lately from new laundry operators just getting into the industry – many with questions about offering a wash-dry-fold service. As a result, I thought now would be a perfect time to revisit this segment of the business and dust off some of the main principles of getting started and running a profitable wash-dry-fold operation. There are two ways to approach a wash-dry-fold service. The first way is as a fully attended laundry, and the second is as an unattended, ...

Here’s a Look at the Advantages of Word of Mouth Advertising – And How Your Laundry Business Can Best Leverage Them Way back, long before social media, the internet, television, radio, printing or even “business” itself (at least as we are familiar with it these days), there was just word of mouth to spread information. That was it – plain and simple. Of course, word of mouth back then certainly had its geographic limitations. However, it was probably extremely effective because it was believable and had a quality of verisimilitude. In other words, it was very likely perceived as being truthful. And the same rings true today. That’s why testimonials are ...

Are You Maximizing Your Laundromat’s Beverage and Snack Vending Operation? Beyond washers, dryers and folding tables, perhaps the most commonly found pieces of equipment in nearly every self-service laundry are vending machines. In fact, according to recent Coin Laundry Association statistics, more than 80 percent of laundry owners offer vended snacks and/or beverages to their customers. However, in 2018, simply plugging in a used pop machine and a half-filled candy vendor in the nearest empty corner of your laundry may no longer be the surefire path to vending riches it once was. Here’s a look at today’s changing vending industry – as well as how to maximize ...
